With everyone and their mate trying to spindle their crappy EPs, it's becoming harder and harder to get a quality freebie these days, but do not despair, as we're pretty sure we've just found your new favourite band, and currently their single, Voodoo, is going for absolutely nada! All Kings and Queens are a new, synth-pop duo made up of Gabriella (yes, you do recognise her voice from "sweet about me") and Joseph, her brother, who we must assume is the genius behind the music for this spectacular debut!
Though they've described themselves as similar to The Pet Shop Boys, we might not go as far as to put them in that pigeon-hole. However, the '80's feel behind this track is phenomenal and impossible to miss. They've absolutely hit the nail on the head, and whilst it is quite obviously filled with nostalgia, we still reckon they have more than enough about them to offer something very much fitting with the current music climate. Gabriella's vocal is still as mesmerising as ever, she has that slight twang that we all adored when it first came about, and whilst it is set to a very different backdrop, she uses it brilliantly and we can't get enough.
The music is filled to the brim with whoosh sounds and synths, mightily popular in the '80's. The guitars and general skeleton of the music though, could be considered somewhat more Indie than Pop. There's a darkness that only MsMr have managed to capture in recent years, but the likes of Michael Jackson captured in the past. HAIM-esque guitars feature quite deep within the sound though too, and as if this were in a spooky but climactic chase scene in a classic horror, this really fills you up!
We think this is a massive triumph and cannot wait to hear some more ... a nice little surprise too from Gabriella who hasn't been in the limelight for some time. Grab it now for free!
